What is Christmas all about? The people behind this website want you to have the best answer to this question. The Putting Christ back into Christmas committee is made up of people from a cross section of the churches in Hamilton, Victoria. We are passionate about ensuring that our community knows that the birth of Jesus Christ is the central reason why we celebrate Christmas. The baby in the manger in Bethlehem was “God with us.” This was one of the most pivotal events in human history and we will all be the poorer if its significance is diminished.
In the midst of the hedonistic commercialism that enshrines cultural Christmas celebrations, we present a deeper reason for celebrating this special occasion. The coming of Jesus Christ into our world 2000 years ago has changed our lives and redefined our purpose for living.
The co-operation and support of the churches in Hamilton has enabled us to inform our community that the birth of Jesus Christ provides the deepest and most meaningful reason for Christmas celebrations. We do this through a variety of activities.
- · Distributing envelopes, stickers and bookmarks bearing our logo
- · Displaying nativity scenes at various locations around the town
- · Running a Christmas colouring competition
- · Distributing brochures containing the Christmas message
- · Positioning a large, mobile “Putting Christ back into Christmas” sign around the town in the lead up to Christmas
- · Presenting Christmas messages on local commercial radio
We will continue to look for innovative ways to ensure that people of all ages hear that Christmas is about Jesus Christ coming into our world to “save us from our sin” and give us an eternal hope. In short, we aim to help you put Christ back into Christmas.
